Replacement Trainers, Summer Vybin’, 1/2 a 10k, and some Blog Hoppin’

So Dan left to go on his first real vacation EVER this week. He and AJ were going to Park City, Utah, to go mountain biking and all sorts of nature-y stuff (Me=SUPER JEALOUS) for 5days. Before he leaves, I get this text message asking if I want to train with Dave while he’s gone (side note: Dan is convinced that Dave is my gym crush and gives me a hard time about it all the time). Me being the mouthy brat I am, I respond by saying, “Sure! I’d love to spend some time with Dave! ;-) ” to which I get a prompt response saying that maybe it’s a bad idea because I might leave Dan for Dave…. Haha, not likely, but it’s fun to tease Dan about it.

Anyway, so Dan and I train on Monday before he leaves and he of course, makes sure that we do some heavy lifting in our session to ensure that I remember just how much I love training with him. Silly boy.

Training with Dave was…. interesting? He is the trainer that first started telling me about CrossFit and really got me interested enough to try it, leading to yet another fitness love in my life! He is also really attractive, but has a total inner geek going on with his mad love of Star Wars and cats (I mean, really really overboard). It’s probably one of my favorite things about him because it takes him from the level of being one of those unreasonably attractive and unapproachable trainers, to someone that I goof around with.

Since we’ve never trained together, I was interested to see just what he’d put together for us to work on. I have to admit, I was very impressed with the workouts that we ended up doing, though we did have to bump up the weight a bit, since I was more advanced than he has thought. On Tuesday, we ended up doing 3 rounds of a 500 meter row, 10 deadlift to push press with a 30# med ball, and 10 reps of a kettlebell combination of a deadlift high pull to a squat to a push press and then back down with an 25# kettlebell. We followed that up with a barbell complex of progressing reps (3-5-7-9 as many times as possible before time ran out). We started with bent over rows, deadlifts, reverse curls, squats, and push presses with a 40# barbell. Not super heavy, but by the end, my arms were burning. We got through three rounds before our session ran out.

Overall, though I was very impressed with Dave’s style of training and he would definitely be the first person I’d call if I ever stopped training with Dan, I still love my own trainer and wouldn’t trade him in for anything.

Friday: rest day (Gasp! I know! I actually took a day off!)

Bri and I getting ready to represent Sweat Pink at Summer Vybe

Saturday should have been a rest day and if I were smart, I would have taken it off as well, but my favorite dance group was hosting Summer Vybe, a 2 hour dance event to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. I could miss the chance to rock out with Nnanna, August, and the rest of the crew to some awesome music and get my sweat on!

My sister and I at Summer Vybe

I managed to recruit a handful of my girls to come check in out and indulge in a major sweat session. The result: 5 of my favorite ladies, 2 hours of hardcore cardio hip hop dancing, and 2500 calories burned! And I got to finally go to an event and represent my new status as a Sweat Pink Ambassador! We were able to spread a bit of the Sweat Pink love around to the Lifetime clients at LTF Bloomingdale and promote healthy living!

Some of the girls from work came too!

Sunday is the big RACE DAY! (The one that I should have been resting up for all weekend! Oops!)

All our runners, pre-race

Originally, my plan was to run the 10k, but with the lack of self-care and the heat, I ended up cutting it short and just doing the 5k instead. It was a great race and since I was pretty familiar with the course (It was identical to a race I ran in May), I was pretty comfortable with it.

Finished! Me, James’ friend, James, Scott, Lauren, Jim, and Bri

Even though I was disappointed to not have finished what I committed to, I was really proud of myself because I managed to shave another 90 seconds off my finishing time! Which means that I am able to keep up about a 15 minute mile pace so far. Like I’ve mentioned earlier, I’m the sloooooow friend. But that’s okay. I’ve never run a race before this year and cutting from about 20 min/mile down to 15 minutes is an accomplishment that I will GLADLY claim!

And now it’s time for some blog hoppin’!  One of my Sweat Pink sisters, Lori, is hosting a Get Fit, Sweat Pink Blog Hop on her blog!  You can join in and discover some awesome health and fitness blogs!  If you like the blog you read then please support it by becoming a follower via GoogleFriendsConnect, Networked Blogs, or email…. Including mine! :-)
